Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can come on the trip?

Up to 6 people can fish on the boat safely and comfortably.

Are we required to wear life jackets?

No, adults are not required to wear a life jacket. Children under 13 will be required to wear a life jacket while the boat is underway.

The boat has plenty of USCG approved offshore life Jackets for adults and children always on board in case of any emergency, however if you want to wear a life jacket for the trip or you are bringing a child under 13, talk to me before our trip date and I can bring much more comfortable auto-inflating life vests for any adult sized persons, and we can discuss some safe and comfortable options for the kids.

How many fish can we take home?

This answer is mostly tied to species specific seasons and limits and what you can feasibly take home (and consume). In general if a box full of fish meat is what you want, that can be achieved!

How much is the deposit?

$200 per day booked. Deposits are NOT refundable except in cases of weather forcing the trip to be rescheduled. We can reschedule your trip up to 10 days before the planned date without issue for emergency situations, but the deposit is forfeited for cancelations within 10 days of the trip.

Are we required to have our own fishing licenses?

No, you are not. I have a boat license that covers any paying customers for fishing licenses.

What should we bring on the boat?

**No spray sunscreen, which destroys decks, rubber reel handles and flooring, and marine electronics. My insurance even forbids it on board (it really is that bad).**

I will have plenty of ice, bottled water, and cooler space, but other drinks, snacks, food, and sunscreen are your responsibility. Offshore fishing is work, often in the heat and sun. Please dress accordingly and bring extra water, snacks, and sunscreen, more than you expect to need.

I highly recommend Neutrogena face sunscreen in 70 SPF for offshore fishing. It is more costly, but it rubs in great, doesn't hurt anything, and doesn't seem as bad to run into your eyes. Plus it really works - normally I put it on my face and neck before I leave each morning, reapply once late morning and do the tops of my hands and backs of legs, and that's it for the day.

I also recommend hooded fishing shirts, waterproof or quick drying shoes, and shorts/pants that dry quickly, since you'll likely get damp at some point.

You can bring alcoholic drinks if you like, but nothing stronger than beer/ high noons/ seltzers please, and CANS ONLY. I do reserve the right to ask you to stop drinking if that becomes necessary (I've never had to in my tenure of guiding so far).

Can we bring our own tackle?

I have no problem with you bringing tackle as long as it is appropriate for our goals offshore. If you like to vertical jig especially, feel free to bring your preferred rod and favorite jigs. Please bring this up at booking and we will talk about it!

All of that said, I have a substantial collection of higher end Daiwa and Shimano equipment that will more than cover our needs.

What about sea sickness?

Here are a few things you can do to help prevent sea sickness:

**Refunds are not offered in the case of sea sickness.

Are children allowed on offshore trips?

Absolutely, kids are welcome! The age minimum for safety's sake is 7 years old, and anyone under 13 will need to wear a life jacket whenever the boat is moving.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day we are scheduled to fish? What about rain?

This is handled on a case-by-case basis, but these trips are meant to be safe and enjoyable experiences. In general anything over 3' seas and we will be discussing the weather in our pre-trip call/text. Anything much over 4' and we are likely going to consider rescheduling or canceling.

Rain alone does not justify a cancelation/reschedule in general. Please come fully prepared for rain, as it's always a possibility in Florida.

What are the most common ways we will be fishing?

I love to live bait fish for both bottom fish and pelagics. That said, I'm not opposed to jigging or trolling, and most days will consist of  multiple techniques aimed at multiple species. Outside of very specific circumstances, we will not be trolling all day.
